BRAAI AREA

There is a Weber braai on the patio. Please do not move it onto our precious grass as the hot coals will kill the grass.

Please make sure to totally extinguish fire/coals/wood when you call it a night as we are in a forested area. Please only make fires in designated areas.

MAKING A FIRE

You will need:

  • Matches\Lighter
  • A firelighter or two
  • Kindling and sticks
  • Dry firewood

These have all been provided for you.

Step 1:

Create a 4-story, log cabin-style structure in the fireplace/braai/firepit with the dry firewood provided. Use the larger pieces of wood at the bottom.

Step 2:

Add kindle and firelighters to the inside of the structure.

Step 3:

Use split logs and sticks to build a teepee structure over the kindling and firelighters.

Step 4:

Light the kindling and firelighters, add wood as necessary to maintain your fire.

Please only make fires in designated areas and make sure to extinguish outdoor fires properly after you are done.

VEGETATION

Please do not touch any of the plants as some of them are poisonous!

GYM

The gym is complimentary to guests aged 16 and older. It has free-weights, a circuit machine and functional fitness apparatus.

To gain access through the door, touch the panel to activate it, then enter the code: 202120* to open the door.

Please close the door when you leave.

ELECTRIC FENCE

Access to The Farmhouse is through a card-controlled electronic gate. Use the card provided to open the gate.

Caution: the property is surrounded by an electric fence. Do not touch it!

WINTER

The Farmhouse has three fireplaces. Complimentary pine cones, fire lighters and wood have been provided. Please keep doors closed to warm up rooms faster.

SUMMER

You will find electric mosquito repellent units already plugged in. Please keep windows and doors closed to ensure the mosquito repellent works effectively.

POWER FAILURES

The Farmhouse runs on a combination of Eskom and solar power, in the event of a power failure the house automatically switches over to the solar battery system. This will happen without you noticing.

The battery system will be able to power basic features in the house (lights, Wi-Fi, fridge, microwave) for a regular 2-hour loadshedding period. We recommend that you plan cooking outside of loadshedding times, the battery will not last if you use the oven.

Our Welcome Centre team will send you the loadshedding schedule for the day to keep in mind.  If you make use of the ESP app, our schedule is Donkerhoek 15.

WILDLIFE

Be aware that we have resident Bush Babies who love to pick the insects from the windows. We also have Vervet Monkeys in the area, they are not a bother, but please don’t get a fright if they come and play on the roof.

Please don’t feed the monkeys, or leave any food unattended as this will encourage bad behaviour.

Please close all windows and doors when leaving your unit.
